The Worlds first designhotel gets more design

When Royal Hotel opened its door for guests in 1960 it was the Danish capital’s first skyscraper and the world’s first design hotel. The building is a gesamtkunstwerk and the architect Arne Jacobsen did not only design the building itself but also every thing inside from furniture to door handles. Today the original Room 606 which stand as it did back then has been made into a museum-room – you can visit but no longer book the room.

Recently the Radisson owned hotel reviled five new suites in collaboration with furniture company Fritz Hansen each one honouring designers who has a special relationship with the company and its history. Fritz Hansen still produces Arne Jacobsen’s most iconic pieces – for instance The Egg Chair and The Swan Chair that was originally designed for the hotel. The designers are Cecilie Manz, Poul Kjærholm and Arne Jacobsen, together with iconic designs from KAISER idell and GamFratesi. In addition to these there are two Fritz Hansen suites, one Classic and one Contemporary.
